Here's an update from my daughter:
Norton cleaned up all my temp files, cookies, defragged, un-installed all obsolete software that we don't use but came with the computer, checked the RAM to make sure it was what the computer said it was, cleaned up the virus called TROJAN.BRISV.A!INF.
The tech also offered the following hints:
If you want to delete files and don’t want them to go to the recycle bin press shift delete.
To minimize all screens at the same time press the windows button and the "D" key - it is a toggle and will bring them back too.
Also If you turn your computer off instead of leaving it on you can add 30% more time to its life.
http://safeweb.norton.com/ is a link is to rate other websites and see how others rate them before visiting them. Norton rated my computer after a long search to see how my equipment really is performing and I got 4 out of 5 stars, he said that was really good.
This is one of the nastiest viruses out there. It takes snapshots of the different screens on your computer, and logs your keystrokes so it can get into bank, credit card, and other places
Norton also said that if this had happened on a "reputable site" they would have covered the cost, so we are no longer mad at them. We are still checking on Linewire. Our granddaughter is a good kid. She thought she was signing up for something legitimate. She does NOT by black market music or engage in any other questionable activities online. We will dig deeper into this.
